Fox staring at suburban houses

Keep Going

Some time after you’ve left the houses behind, you find a line of trees. You can hear the splashing of water somewhere past the start. You’ve never seen so many trees in one place before. You bark in excitement and delight.

The treeline is teeming with the sounds of life. You can hear all the mice, the voles, squirrels, and chipmunks you heard the footsteps of earlier. Your first goal is the water. The hot sun has started to go down, but you were traveling with it blazing all day.

You are surprised to see a long flow of water. You’ve never seen this much water at once either. Maybe only when the streets have flooded with rainwater in the past. It's shallow and you avoid sticking your paws in. You drink water for a long time.

There are flowers everywhere, you haven’t eaten them in a long time. You’d done so as a kit, but not since you’d gotten sick from the sprayed petals. You can’t smell anything but the gentle scent of the flowers and there can’t be any humans here anyway. You eat several of the flowers, finding mice in between them. You eat until you’re full.

It’s been a long day and you’ve been up for most of it.
