The sun is hot in the sky, but the new trees provide a near constant shelter. They are young and short, but you stay directly underneath them where the sunlight cannot touch you. The bodies you had seen just yesterday have disappeared entirely. You imagine the earth swallowed them up, like it tried to do to you.
